Massively popular and much anticipated is the phenomenon of Freshers’ Week, a must do for anyone about to start university life.

Freshers’ Week, which takes place during the first week of term, initially began as a way to keep students entertained when they arrived to register for their university course and had to put up with a long wait.

Since online registration made all that unnecessary, the trend continued with an annual explosion of fun activities, wild parties and awesome experiences, all designed to help the transition from home life to uni life.

The event traditionally takes place during the same week every year and Freshers’ Week in Leicester 2016, which runs throughout the last week of September and into October, is no exception.

It’s a chance to meet and make new friends, try new things, party like it’s going out of fashion and get your bearings in the city which is going to be your home for the next three years.

What’s on for Freshers in Leicester?

For any DMU students to be, they will be taking part in the #FreshFest16 with events which include the Early2Uni Party, FreshFest Opening Party, Freshers’ Ball, ColourFest, a tour of the Leicester Tigers stadium, quiz nights, bar tours and the biggest activities fair the university has ever had!

For Leicester University students, Freshers’ Week or the Fresh Festival (which is actually held over a fortnight) kicks off a run of 18 massive events on September 25 with a huge welcome party at the O2 Academy. Then later in the week, events include a North vs Midlands vs South Bar Crawl to help you meet new friends and drinking game rivals as well as a ton of other crazy goings on.

Stay safe in Freshers Week!

The main aim of Freshers’ Week is to have as much fun as humanly possible, while making friends and getting to know what university life is all about. And all of the parties and non-stop fun tends to come with copious amounts of alcohol.

But, while it’s ‘oh so tempting’ to completely let your hair down straight away, if you’re in a new town, stay safe in Freshers’ Week and get your bearings before you party too hard. This way, you’ll know where you are and how to get safely home when you need to.

And above all – make sure to enjoy yourself and have an experience you’ll never forget!
