The Coronavirus pandemic has affected communities all over the world and it seems that no corner of the globe has escaped unscathed – but how does this affect you, your studies and your accommodation as a Leicester student?

As we continue to keep our ear to the ground with regard to events as they progress, it’s important that all Leicester students stay aware of any updates which affect the University of Leicester or De Montfort University as the start of the new year approaches.

This important information is readily available on both university websites and will answer any questions students might have about how they could be affected during the pandemic.

University support in the approach to the new term

De Montfort University is closely monitoring the spread of COVID19 and all staff and students are advised to check and follow the advice from Public Health England. Their website contains a series of frequently asked questions which help answer any queries about study.

The University of Leicester has assured students that they are well prepared with governance and operational teams in place to act swiftly to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of the LU community.

This includes the continual review and monitoring of advice from Public Health England and the establishment of work streams whose focus is to create a COVID-19 compliant, safe campus.

The positive news is that everything, so far, appears to be going ahead for the new semester, bearing in mind the necessary considerations regarding social distancing and staying safe.

The effect of COVID 19 on student housing

There are, of course, things to keep in mind when staying in halls or student housing. Many students have expressed concerns about how the pandemic will affect their living accommodation. Advice at the time of writing, gives some of the following points:

  • Students experiencing symptoms of COVID19 must self isolate away from all other students for 14 days.
  • Anyone living with someone suffering from the symptoms must also self isolate.
  • If you are living in halls, then the university will put a plan in place based on advice from Public Health England.
  • Social distancing should be observed at all times with people outside of your household.

In light of queries and questions from our tenants, we’ve created a list of our frequently asked questions that relate to rent and belongings, during the Coronavirus pandemic, along with the answers.
