Believe it or not, Christmas is just around the corner and with it comes all of the excitement of the chance to spend some fantastic downtime with family and friends, or, if you prefer your own company, it’s a perfect opportunity to wind down from your studies.

Give yourself a Christmas to remember
It might be the first time you’ve spent Christmas away from the family home, but, if you’re looking for ideas to create that festive appeal yourself, then there are plenty of ways to do it.
One thing people often think of when they imagine Christmas is all the lovely food, so get planning what you’ll be having beforehand and use the opportunity to get yourself feeling festive. Will you be having a turkey on Christmas Day, or perhaps a vegan extravaganza sounds more up your street? What about advance buying some of the drinks and nibbles you’ll be wanting to enjoy as you curl up with a loved one?
If you really fancy treating yourself, start saving up now for some lovely Christmas treats. Even putting aside £5-10 a week, means you’ll be able to enjoy some amazing festive food when the time comes around.
Get yourself in the mood
Once Halloween and bonfire night are behind us, it’s jingle all the way to Christmas, so here is a list of a few things you could do to help your Leicester student life be amazing.
● How about organising a Christmas get together with a group of friends at the end of term, before you all go your separate ways?
● Make some mulled wine and sit back and enjoy a Christmas movie or two.
● Attend a candlelight carol concert, such as the one held every year at the beautiful Leicester Cathedral
● Wrap up warm and go ice skating with a few of your friends
● Attend Christmas events at the Leicester universities, such as wreath making and food festivals.
Decorating your Leicester student accommodation
Wherever you’ll be this Christmas, another thing to get planning is your Christmas decorations. Will you go all out this year, with an abundance of twinkling lights and colourful baubles, or will you keep it simple and stylish? It’s up to you to pick the style which suits you most.
If you are a student tenant, remember to double check what you can and can’t put up on the walls, but after that, the world is your oyster. And, if money is tight (as it is with most of us these days) there are tons of DIY decorations you can make yourself, instead of having to splurge at the shops.
Think paper chains, paper snowflakes, pine cones decorated with snow spray, make a Christmas tree from a pile of books or beer cans and decorate it with tinsel, or add a little santa hat to everything you can and all of a sudden everywhere feels more Christmassy.
There are just so many possibilities when you spread a little tinsel about and get a little arty and creative.
